Early Start of Las Zirh Tire Protection Chains

Las Zirh Tire Protection Chains have gained popularity in the OTR industry. This is due to their ability to provide superior traction and protection in challenging terrain. These tire chains are made especially to improve heavy-duty equipment performance. Therefore, they can operate easily on slick surfaces like mud, snow, and ice.

The concept of using protection chains with off-road tires originated in the early 1900s. Tire chains with basic steel links started to appear more frequently during this period. These early types were easy to use, with chains wrapped around the tire to provide grip and protect it from harm. Although tire durability had significantly improved, the tires were not efficiency-optimized and often caused problems during installation and maintenance.

Mehmet Efendi Edele was a Harput businessman in the late 1800s involved in the import and export sector, mostly with Russia and Egypt. His two sons, Fehmi and Hamdi Şedele, famous businessmen in their region at the time, created the Elazig Chamber of Commerce in 1920.

In 1978, Hüseyin Şedele, the grandson of Hamdi, carried on the family business legacy by founding Las Zirh. Also, producing Turkey’s first Tire Protection Chain.  With a focus on tire chains, this family-run business established serial production in the 1980s. At the time, they were obtaining patents and trademark registrations for their inventions.  Las Zirh became an integrated manufacturer in the 1990s by bringing all necessary production processes under one roof.  After exporting its first chain to Greece in 1997, Las Zirh relocated to a new 10,000 square-meter facility in Istanbul in 2003 and began operations in its 11,000 m2 facility in Kırıkkale in 2007.

The initial challenges

While working in the challenging limestone quarry in 1978, the Balikesir Cement Factory faced a big barrier. The company required dependable tire protection chains for their wheel loader. Unfortunately, the traditional solution of importing chains from Germany proved to be expensive, with steep prices, import duties, transportation costs, and complex customs procedures.

Balikesir Cement Factory found itself at a crossroads. However, Huseyin Şedele stepped in with an innovative idea. He was a young, hardworking, and talented electrician known for his ability to fix almost anything in the cement factory.

First Tire Protection Chain in Turkey

Huseyin Sedele was being well-connected in the industry. So he immediately reached out to his network of contacts to explore the possibility of manufacturing the chain locally. He knew that Turkey had a strong manufacturing sector and believed that finding a reliable manufacturer would not be a challenge. Additionally, he was sure that making the chain in Turkey would avoid costs for the cement factory. As resolve the current dilemma.

Huseyin knew that by producing the chains in Turkey, they could eliminate the need for expensive international shipping and customs fees. Additionally, manufacturing locally would allow for greater control over the production process. Equally important, ensure a faster turnaround time for the cement factory’s tire protection chain needs.

Huseyin also knew that developing Turkey’s first tire protection chain would not only benefit his cement factory. But also pave the way for other industries in the country. He understood that having control over the production process would allow for customization and optimization, leading to increased efficiency and cost savings. With a faster turnaround time, the cement factory could minimize downtime and maximize productivity, ultimately contributing to its overall success.

Tire Protection Production, Early Challenges

The early stages of production had difficulties. Only two protection chains were produced in six weeks, and an additional five days were needed for installation. Huseyin didn’t let his early errors and failures define him.  He viewed it as a chance to grow and learn when the machine’s first security chains broke and left broken rings.

Huseyin changed the protection chains and tried several approaches. Because of his unwavering resolve, and eventually, figured out the right combination. The route to success was cleared by his commitment to refining the product.

Before long, news of his tire protection chains became widely circulated throughout the stone quarries.

Huseyin made a huge advancement in 1982 when he opened Las Zirh in Istanbul in response to the rising demand for his ground-breaking invention, protection chains. He began serial production with just four workers, starting with just one model and two sizes.  Due to its dedication to quality and client satisfaction, the business quickly established a solid reputation for dependability and excellence.
